Since opening on Broadway on April 4, 2013, Kinky Boots quickly became Broadway’s newest smash hit and has gone on to win Tony, Grammy, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards.

Including: Kinky Boots’ Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Cyndi Lauper, Tony Award-winning book writer Harvey Fierstein, Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell, and the cast of Kinky Boots, including Tony Award-winner Billy Porter, Andy Kelso, and Jeanna de Waal.

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization will honor Margaret Russell, the Editor in Chief of Architectural Digest, and Tony Award winning actress Patti LuPone, where each will receive the 2014 HRC Ally for Equality Award Celebrity interior designer Nate Berkus will be a special guest. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will headline the event on February 8, 2014 at the Waldorf Astoria.

The Ally for Equality award is given to allies outside the LGBT community who stand up on behalf of equality for all Americans. Through her work at Architectural Digest, Ms. Russell not only features the work of contemporary LGBT architects and designers, but also honors the memory of LGBT architectural icons. As a singer and actress, Patti LuPone has publicly supported LGBT equality for many years and has said that her vocal LGBT following gives her credibility.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

The Musical Celebration of Broadway brings together 500 of New York City’s most influential arts supporters, celebrities, and luminaries for a black-tie evening of cocktails, dinner, and the acclaimed, unforgettable musical revue that is the signature of this event. Featuring dozens of stars from film, television and theatre, the Musical Celebration of Broadway, directed by Tony® Award winner Michael Mayer and Johanna McKeon, will highlight songs from Mr. Harris’ musical theater triumphs in shows that include Rent, Assassins, Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, among others. Mr. Mayer and Ms. McKeon are alumni of The Drama League Directors Project. The evening’s one-of-a-kind all-star tribute, hosted by Emmy®, Grammy, Oscar and Tony® Award winner, Whoopi Goldberg, is co-produced by Roger T. Danforth and Trevor Tamashiro. For the second year in a role, Broadway cast members from Jersey Boys, The Lion King, etc and non for profit group Broadway Sings for Pride alum (www.BroadwaySingsforPride.com) will headline the closing night of the 16th Annual Long Island Gay & Lesbian Film Festival on the evening of Monday, November 11, 2013.

Broadway Sings for Pride alum scheduled to appear: Russell Fischer (Broadway’s Jersey Boys), Chondra L. The Emery Awards, hosted by Andy Cohen, will honor individuals and corporations that exemplify HMI’s mission of providing a safe and supportive environment for all young people regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This year’s honorees include Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation; Super Bowl Champion, Brendon Ayanbadejo; Fallon Fox who is the first openly transgender athlete in Mixed Marshal Arts (MMA) history; Founder and Director of Athlete Ally, Hudson Taylor, among many others. Best-selling author, David Mixner will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as a human rights advocate.

The Hetrick-Martin Institute believes all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential. Hetrick-Martin creates this environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth between the ages of 13 and 24 and their families.
